Impressive Stuff From The Purchase Brothers

Posted: February 23rd, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Creative, Visual | Tags: , , , | 1 Comment »

The Purchase Brothers are 23 and 25-year-old commercial directors David and Ian Purchase. They’re live in Toronto, and created this short film based around the hit game Half-Life, for under $500.

Originally envisioned as a project to test out post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series.

Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on their budget of $500.

Have a look at their spec work on Coke Babies too.

These lads look pretty impressive.

Spotify. Share And Stream Music On Demand

There’s been a lot of hype about Spotify recently, even how it could make the current iTunes music model obsolete. One of Spotify’s best features is the ability to share playlists between friends.

I’ve started using Spotify a lot more recently but this is great.

A user has posted his entire Spotified CD collection on his blog. He’s taken a photo of his entire CD collection and linked each jewel case to that artist in Spotify.

Several similarly-named sites have appeared offering you the chance to share your tastes with other users, and discover new music. It’s the new mixtape.

Scintillation. An Experimental Film by young director Xavier Chassaing.

Ahhh… I love it when you come across something like this.

The film stands on it’s own purely for its visuals, but the technique and craft that went into the production sets this film apart. What looks like film is in fact 35,000 photographs with a mix of 3d mapped projections.

Amazing.

Smell-O-Vision comes one step closer to reality with SMELLIT.

SMELLIT works just like your printer, but instead of ink cartridges, it works with smell cartridges.

As your DVD player reads the video and sound information, SMELLIT processes the DVD smell information 10 to 20 seconds ahead of the actual scene so the odours have time to reach the spectators.

Bigtrak. Hunting The Toys Of My Youth!

God I used to LOVE this!!!

BIG TRAK was a programmable electric vehicle created by Milton Bradley in 1979. It was a six-wheeled tank with a front-mounted blue photon beam headlamp, and a keypad on top.

Big Trak could remember up to 16 commands which it then executed in sequence (such as “go forward 5 lengths”, “pause”, “turn 30 degrees right”, “fire phaser” and so on. Cool at the time.

I was the odd one out at school because i went for Total Control Racing (TCR) not Scalextric. Rebel eh.
