Amazing. The New Order Singles Project
Posted: September 5th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Creative, Digital, Music, Social | Tags: remaster, ugc | No Comments »These guys weren’t impressed with the remastered New Order collections put out by the label, so they collected and cleaned up every one of the Factory singles and the the artwork themselves.
Here’s the lowdown:
In the fall of 2008 London Records/Warner Brothers finally released “remastered” versions of New Order’s ground-breaking 80′s albums recorded for Factory Records. They were terrible. Instead of releasing a comprehensive singles box (which they should have done a decade ago), they tried to cram everything onto bonus discs paired with each album, using terrible mastering with crushed dynamics – just a piss-poor job all the way around. My friend Bruce lives in Toronto, and in addition to being a New Order fan is also an audio restoration expert. We’ve decided to tackle the reissues ourselves, including the many items the label saw fit to omit yet the fans have been begging for for years.
- All tracks were taken from the best/earliest possible sources to avoid modern mastering techniques which crush the dynamics.
- Tracks sourced from vinyl have been carefully cleaned and EQ levels have been tweaked for consistency.
- The artwork was scanned at the highest possible resolution and the type was reset when possible using the original fonts.
Documentation of the artwork restoration process:
All singles in AAC/iTunes format at 256kbps fully tagged and ready:
